How To Get Your Summer Glow On

When it comes to our beauty routines, a change of season often signals a pivot on our skin’s needs. So, what better time to switch things up? Here are a few ways to reset your skincare routine for spring and summer and help maximize that glow all season long.
Drink even more water.
We should be drinking tons of water in general, but even more so as the temps start to rise. Our skin is our largest organ and in order for it to flourish, water is key. Reveal that glow and help to prevent your skin from looking dry and dull by upping your water intake.
Make SPF your best friend.
Whether the sun is beaming, or the sky is grey with clouds, it’s imperative that you rock SPF every, single, day. Harmful UV rays are no joke and can be one of the fastest ways to age skin and increase the visibility of dark marks. Given that hyperpigmentation is a major concern for women of color, SPF should never be skipped. It’ll help improve the look of those dark marks and keep your skin clear and even.
Lighten up your moisturizer.
Maintaining moisture year-round is key, but in the summer, you can ease up a bit on the formula. Utilizing a lightweight moisturizer instead of a heavy wintertime product will help in decreasing the likelihood of clogged pores, especially since you’ll be sweating more. Same goes for your serums, instead of using a thicker oil-based formula, opt for a water-based serum that’s more light weight.
Skip the foundation.
Instead of a full-coverage foundation, try using tinted moisturizer. Since tinted moisturizers tend to be lightweight and skin like, you’ll see more of a natural glow. Also, tinted moisturizers are often formulated with humectants, which help hydrate the skin better than a traditional foundation.
Wash or replace your makeup brushes.
Whew, makeup sponges and brushes are a tremendous carrier of germs and bacteria. So, if you aren’t already cleaning them regularly, now’s the time to do so. Utilize a gentle all-natural cleanser to wash your makeup tools and toss any that you know you’ve had for way too long.
